Zebra cake is a type of marble cake where light and dark batters are poured in layers to form a striped design. It’s typically made with a single base batter divided into vanilla and chocolate portions.


📝 Ingredients

For Cake Batter

  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (200g) sugar
  • 1 cup (240 ml) milk
  • ½ cup (120 ml) oil or butter
  • 3–4 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt

For Chocolate Batter

  • 2–3 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 2–3 tbsp milk

👩‍🍳 Step-by-Step: How to Make Zebra Cake

Step 1: Prepare the Pan

  • Grease a 9-inch round cake pan
  • Line with parchment paper
  • Dust lightly with flour or cocoa

Step 2: Mix Dry Ingredients

  • In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt
  • Mix well and set aside

Step 3: Prepare Wet Mixture

  • Beat eggs and sugar until light
  • Add oil/butter, milk, and vanilla
  • Mix until smooth

Step 4: Combine Batter

  • Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture
  • Mix into a lump-free batter

Step 5: Divide Batter

  • Split batter into two equal portions
  • Add cocoa powder + milk to one portion (chocolate batter)

Step 6: Create Zebra Pattern

  • Pour 2–3 tbsp vanilla batter in center of pan
  • Add 2–3 tbsp chocolate batter directly on top
  • Repeat alternating layers until batter is used
  • (The batter spreads naturally to form rings)

Step 7: Bake

  • Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 35–40 minutes
  • Check with toothpick (should come out clean)

Step 8: Cool & Serve

  • Cool completely before slicing
  • Cut to reveal beautiful zebra stripes
