Richard Moore, a cycling journalist and podcaster who has died on Monday (March 28th), is being praised by tributes on social media. On Wednesday, his employer, the Cycling Podcast announced his passing in a statement posted to his show’s official Twitter account.

“Monday was an unfathomably difficult day. In the morning we received the news that our leader, lynchpin, friend and brother Richard Moore had passed away. We are all shattered,” it said. Richard Moore was a cycling journalist, author and podcaster who was well known within the British cycling world. The 49-year-old from Scotland is perhaps best known as the creator of The Cycling Podcast, a popular podcast. He used to be a professional racing cyclist for Great Britain at the Tour of Langkawi and Scotland at the PruTour, as well as the 1998 Commonwealth Games.

After retiring from cycling, he became one of the most well-known cycling journalists and has worked for a number of major publications. He’s written three books, each about illustrious British cyclists, but he’s probably best recognized for his podcast.

“To us, he was a force of nature, unerring but above all unifying. There can be no consolation today, but the closest thing is knowing that the network of affection and love he knitted will now become an edifice of support for those most deeply affected by this loss,” the statement says.

The official website for The Cycling Podcast also states that “without Richard, it would simply never have started”.

“It will take us some time to process this tragedy, and, mainly for the sake of Richard’s family, we kindly ask for your respect and understanding over the coming days.”

“In due course, it will be our imperative to convey more fully how privileged we feel to have known Richard, and to keep his towering legacy alive,” the statement concludes.
