Peter Scott-Morgan was an English-American scientist. He had motor neurone disease and described himself as a human cyborg. In 2020 he was the subject of Channel 4’s documentary Peter: The Human Cyborg. He attended King’s College School, Wimbledon, where he was head boy. He received a BSc in computer science from Imperial College London and went on to obtain a PhD (1986) from the university’s robotic department.

He wrote his dissertation on “A technical and managerial method for robotisation: a strategy to inexpensively integrate robotics technology into industry with particular regard to flexible assembly systems.” He was also a Chartered Engineer (CEng) and Chartered IT Professional (CITP). Scott-Morgan and his husband Francis have been a couple for over 30 years, dating back to when they met in 1979. On December 21, 2005, the pair became the first couple in England to enter into a civil partnership on the day it was legalized. Nine years later at 8:30am on December 10, 2014, they became the first married couple in England by retrospectively changing their partnership to a marriage. He passed away surrounded by his family on June 15, 2022.

Peter Scott-Morgan Marriage

Peter was married to Francis Scott-Morgan, a retired physician who worked as an engineer and inventor. Dr. Peter Scott-Morgan has been married to his wife, Dr. Francis Scott-Morgan, since 1979 when he was in his early twenties. After more than a decade together, they added their surnames in 1991, according to Peter’s website.

While Francis’ present profession is unknown, Vimbuzz reported he was an assistant manager at a modest hotel while Peter Scott-Morgan attended Imperial. Peter and Francis lived in Devon, England, together. Their partnership was highlighted in the Channel 4 documentary Peter: The Human Cyborg.

Even in his love life, Peter has always been one to break boundaries. On the first day that same-sex couples could form civil partnerships in the United Kingdom, Peter and Francis Scott-Morgan made it official on 21 December 2005. The BBC reported on Peter and Francis Scott-Morgan’s relationship in December 2005.

The event was marked with a lavish wedding in the Versailles-inspired Oldway Mansion’s ballroom in Paignton, Devon. There were hundreds of guests, as well as more than four generations of family members. In the early 1990s, Peter and Francis were chosen as the first same-sex couple in Devon to have their civil partnership legalized as a marriage. They have been lawfully married since 2014.
