Liz Cheney Lost Wyoming’s Lone Seat In The House

During the inauguration, supporters of Liz Cheney have said that her hopes for reelection were dashed when she and nine other House Republicans decided to impeach former President Donald Trump a week after the insurrection at the Capitol.

Since the events of that day, Cheney’s role on the House select committee investigating the insurrection; her ads featuring Eviscerating Trump with her speeches attempting to steer the GOP away from Trump’s influence led to Harriet Hageman’s victory in Wyoming’s primary for its lone House seat on Tuesday.

The defeat of Cheney by Trump marks the end of a summer in which many Trump critics have left the GOP, and candidates like Hageman who agree with Trump’s baseless claims about election fraud have taken their place. In swing states such as Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania,Trump-aligned candidates have won primaries for governor ,and in Georgia, Ohio and Pennsylvania Senate primaries too. If they win in November, these same candidates will be able to take control of the election process in several key states.

In recent months, the importance of a few major Republicans, including former Vice President Dick Cheney and current Vice President Mike Pence, has become apparent. Wyoming’s Tuesday primary results showed how up against it Trump detractors are in a party where the former President is still the most influential figure and flirting with another bid for the White House in 2024.
