On February 24, 2019, Mu ran the 600-meter race in 1:23.57 at the USA Indoor Track and Field Championships to break the American women’s record. She surpassed Alysia Montano’s previous American women’s record of 1:23.59 and nearly beat the women’s world record of 1:23.44, set by Olga Kotlyarova.
On February 6, 2021, Mu ran indoors in the women’s 400 meters and set a new world under-20 record of 50.52 seconds. However, her time was slower than that of American Sydney McLaughlin, who ran 50.36 in June 2020. She broke the national indoor collegiate and world under-20 records with 1:58.40 on February 27th in the 800 meters.
