Yvette Mooney, a much-loved newsreader renowned for her “grace and bravery,” has died, surrounded by family, after a long battle with cancer. Ms Mooney’s family, friends, and former colleagues at Channel Seven in Perth had been devastated by her death. She spent almost 20 years presenting the news in Western Australia before retiring in 2008.
The woman whose stunning smile lit up television screens was diagnosed with cancer in 2008 and subsequently died on Saturday night. She battled the disease for 16 years until her death, surrounded by loved ones, this past weekend. Susannah Carr, an anchor at Channel 7, has praised Ms Mooney as “the full package.’ She was a great journalist, and she was also a lovely young lady on the inside as well as outside,’ 7NewsPerth quoted Ms Carr as saying.
‘She had a lovely voice but she was also pleasant to be around,’ says one fan. After beginning her career as a journalist, Ms Mooney quickly ascended the news desk, providing weekend updates. She began her work in radio by presenting current affairs programs on the regional network; she became the first presenter of Today Tonight in 1995, staying with the program for two years. She later co-hosted Perth Now, a news program. Rick Ardon, a Channel 7 presenter, stated that Ms Mooney would be sorely missed.

Our hearts are heavy tonight with the news of Yvette’s passing last night. She was devoid of ego, loved by all and an outstanding journalist and presenter. To her family and friends especially her bestie Debra Bishop another equally divine human being, all our love and strength.
‘My father Earl was your biggest fan Yvette. May you Rest In Peace now and thank you for the gifts and joy you gave to so many people. Her devastated relatives said that Ms Mooney was very cherished and will be sorely missed. In a statement released to the public, they said: ‘The world has lost a truly special woman who was an inspiration to all who knew her.’
‘Her courage, strength and positivity in the face of adversity was nothing short of inspirational and she will be dearly missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.’
