Who Was Hydeia Broadbent?
Hydeia was adopted by Loren and Patricia Broadbent after being abandoned at a Las Vegas hospital by her birth mother. In 1987, the Broadbents found out that Hydeia was HIV positive.
Three years later, Hydeia’s birth mother gave birth to another child at the same hospital, who also tested positive for HIV. The hospital informed the Broadbents and they had Hydeia tested for HIV as well with her results also coming back positive. She said her mission was,
“People think because I was born with HIV my story does not apply to them. Well, this same disease I am living with is the same disease you can get if you are aware and informed. I use my testimony as a warning of what you don’t want to go through.”
