Steven Stayner was married with Jody Edmondson. Steven was an American kidnapping victim. At the age of seven he was abducted in Merced, California and managed to escape with another of Parnell’s victims, Timothy White at the age of 14. In a hit-and-run accident on September 16, 1989, Stayner sustained fatal head injuries while riding his motorcycle home from work. After the accident, witnesses identified the car’s alleged driver. Timmy White, 14 years old, was a pallbearer at his funeral, which was attended by 500 people.

Stayner married was married with Jody Edmondson in 1985. At the time of his marriage, Jody was 17 year old. She had two children with her: Ashley and Steven Jr. Though they were actively trying to fix things, the couple became estranged.
Jody Edmondson’s husband Steven Stayner was living in Merced and working at a pizza shop, at the time of his death. He joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints just before his death.

Jody Edmondson had a daughter and had a son. Her daughter, Ashley was 3 years old and Steven Jr. was 2 years old when Steven passed away in 1989. Ashley and Steven Jr. had no real connection to their father and were not able to experience the bond of a father-child relationship.

Ashley currently resides in Atwater, California and went to military university and served in the U.S. Air Force from 2007 to 2011. She shared the tragic news of her partner’s death in 2014. There is no public record of her current address. It is also not known whether she is alive or dead at these moments. In an interview with Newsweek shortly after his escape, Stayner said,
“I returned almost a grown man and yet my parents saw me at first as their 7-year-old. After they stopped trying to teach me the fundamentals all over again, it got better. But why doesn’t my dad hug me anymore? […] Everything has changed. Sometimes I blame myself. I don’t know sometimes if I should have come home. Would I have been better off if I didn’t?”
