On the one-year anniversary of Rock’s injury in April 2022, his mother Rosalie Rock expressed her true feelings about the traumatic event to WIS 10. As a mother of ten, Rosalie didn’t want to see her son injured like any other parent would. She said on the show: “When Will slapped Chris he slapped all of us, but he really slapped me.
Because when you hurt my child you hurt me.” When asked what she would say to Smith if she had the chance to speak to him, she commented: “I have no idea what I would say other than what in the world were you thinking because, you did a slap, but so many things could have happened from that. Chris could have fallen back and been arrested. You could have really been taken into custody.” Rosalie added that it was ‘hard’ for her as a mother to watch the event unfold from home where she couldn’t help or communicate with her son.

During the early 1980s, during his college years, Rock began performing as a stand-up comic in New York City’s Catch a Rising Star. In addition to small roles in I’m Gonna Git You Sucka and Miami Vice, Rock advanced through the comedy circuit. Rock has had a successful career in comedy that began with his 1993 HBO special Edifying and Entertaining.
He later starred in the TV series Everybody Hates Chris, which ran from 2005 to 2007 on the WB Network. In 1999, Rock released two more HBO comedy specials: Bigger & Blacker, and Never Scared. At the end of the 1990s, Rock was recognized as one of today’s most prominent stand-up comedians and comic minds. On October 30, 2016, Netflix announced that it would release two new stand-up comedy specials from Rock for a total pay of $40 million per special.
