Qinwen Zheng is a Chinese professional tennis player. She is currently ranked 13th in the world by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) and achieved her highest ranking on January 8, 2024. At the end of 2023, she rehired Pere Riba during the off-season. Zheng won the Most Improved Player award at the conclusion of the season.

She has had a successful career so far winning several tournaments including two WTA Tour events, one WTA Challenger event and eight ITF singles titles. Qinwen Zheng holds Shiyan nationality. She was born on 8 October 2002 in Shiyan, Hubei. Her mother comes from Chengdu, Sichuan named, Jelena Jakovleva and her father named, Jevgenij Ostapenko. She comes from mixed ethnicity. Until the age of three, she spent time in her maternal grandmother.

Around age seven, Zheng started playing tennis. When Zheng was eight years old, she decided to train in Wuhan and left her home in Shiyan two months later.

In 2019, she relocated to Barcelona with her mother after spending almost three years in Beijing training under Carlos Rodriguez, Zheng’s idol Li Na’s previous coach. In 2021, she started getting instruction from coach Pere Riba.

She reached the final of the Australian Open in 2024, reached the fourth round of the French Open in 2022, reached the third round of Wimbledon in 2022, and reached the quarterfinals of the US Open in 2023.

In doubles, she has a career record of 8-13 (38.1%) and her highest ranking was No. 724 on 26 October 2020.
