Nigel Capewell, her late father, was a Paralympic athlete who represented Team GB in Atlanta and Sydney as a racing cyclist. Sophie took after her father’s genes by competing in cycling at an early age. While competing in other youth events, she won the sprinting national championships.

She also won the silver medal in the 2016 European U23 and Junior Track Championships in Athens, Greece. She finished fourth and fifth, but didn’t reach the podium. Despite her family’s wish to conceal the circumstances of Nigel’s death, she published an obituary on Twitter, where she referred to him as her inspiration.
