Mavis Ackerley is best known as the as the mother of Michelle Ackerley, who is is an English television presenter and journalist, best known for her work on BBC programmes such as Watchdog and The One Show. Her mother, Mavis Ackerley, was a homemaker, and her father, Ronald Ackerley, was a carpenter. She has two sisters: Susan and Karen. Michelle attended St. Bridget’s Primary School and Notre Dame High School.
She then studied English literature at the University of Manchester. After graduation, she worked as a journalist for various newspapers and magazines. In 1992, she joined the BBC as a news trainee. She has since worked as a reporter, presenter, and producer for various BBC programmes. Michelle is married to Michael Gove, the current Secretary of State for Education in the UK government. Michelle Ackerley joined the BBC in 2005 as a programme maker. Since 2013, she has co-hosted the CBBC series All Over the Place. In 2013, she occasionally hosted “The Hub” section on This Morning. In 2015 and 2016, she appeared on Watchdog as a panellist. She co-presented the second season of Watchdog Test House with her brother in 2017.
In 2015, she joined the BBC’s Crimewatch Roadshow as a reporter. From 2016 to 2018, Ackerley hosted Council House Crackdown, which was followed by episodes of Inside Out and Celebrity Mastermind. In December 2016, she appeared as a contestant on an episode of Celebrity Mastermind. Since 2016, she has guest presented episodes of The One Show’s nightly magazine program.
She was also a presenter on CBBC’s Totally Rubbish, I Want My Own Room, and Deadly Art. She has appeared in the CBBC art series, Art Ninja. In January 2018, she participated in an episode of And They’re Off! in aid of Sport Relief.
She has also guested on the following series of Celebrity MasterChef: 2019, 2021, and 2022. She presented Fantasy Homes by the Sea in 2018 and August 2020 she was a lead presenter of ITV’s Loose Women for two episodes.
