He is survived by his wife Marie-France Ward, who was married to him for 27 years. In 1995, he married Carla Evonne Stewart for one year before they parted ways amicably. Three times in his life, he got married: first to Carca Evonne Stewart and then to Latoya Vonsild (from 2005 until 2010).

Freddie Joe Ward, better known as Fred, was born in San Diego and spent three years in the US Air Force before shifting to acting. He went on to star in HBO’s Cast a Deadly Spell and thriller film Thunderheart before continuing to act throughout the 1990s and 2000s, notably receiving a Golden Globe for his performance in Short Cuts.

Before going on to work with Meryl Streep, Jennifer Aniston, and Helen Mirren in films, he played small roles in films like The Firm (1993) with Harrison Ford and Julia Roberts. His most recent role was alongside Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg in 2 Guns, followed by reports that he had retired from acting.
