Marco Troper was the son of former YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki and Dennis Troper. He was the intelligent, loving, kind, and fun human being. He was found dead in his room on campus at the University of California, Berkeley. In 2024, he was enrolled in his second semester at UC Berkeley.

Emergency services were called to the Clark Kerr dorms after receiving reports of a student who was not responsive. The Berkeley Fire Department declared him dead despite attempts to revive him.

Marco Troper Cause of Death

It’s unclear what is the exact death cause of Marco Troper, as ca;mpus police haven’t found any signs of foul play. He was found at 4:23 p.m. on Feb. 13, 2024. The family is going through the process of waiting for a toxicology report which could help confirm the cause of death. The process could take up to 30 days.

While stating that Troper’s death is being investigated, the institution declined to comment on whether or not he overdosed on drugs. Although Wojcicki’s family was shocked by Troper’s passing, she thinks they will find a way to use the tragedy to teach others in the future.

Troper’s grandmother Esther Wojcicki thinks it might have been due to a drug overdose. Esther told SFGATE,

“He ingested a drug, and we don’t know what was in it… One thing we do know, it was a drug. He was everything you could have wished for in a son and a grandson. He was destined to make a difference, it’s heartbreaking.

He was a math genius. He was getting good grades at UC Berkeley and planned to major in math. He was athletic, and that unlike so many young people who focus on one or two sports, he enjoyed playing them all. He was “gregarious” and “loving”.

How Old Was Marco Troper?

Marco Troper was 19 years old, at the time of his death. He grew up in a family of people well-known in the Silicon Valley world. He is also survived by four siblings and his father, Dennis Troper.

He resided in the Clark Kerr residential hall complex six blocks away from the main campus. He attended Gideon Hausner Jewish Day School in Palo Alto before transferring to Menlo School in Atherton.

Troper was involved in various activities such as leading hackathons and tutoring fellow students during his time at the school before graduating in 2023.
