Fauzia Mubarak Ali was born on 24 March 1958 in Nairobi, Kenya. She is 66 years old, as of 2024. She studied at Kinnaird College to study literature written in Urdu. In 1979, she received her diploma from there. She then moved overseas to pursue further education.

She attended Columbia University to study Comparative Literature. She learned about many cultures and people from all around the world thanks to her master’s degree. After the terrifying events of 9/11, she was forced to return home to Pakistan.

Fauzia Mubarak Ali comes from Muslim family. Her husband, Cat Stevens abandoned his musical career for nearly two decades. In 1977, when he became a Muslim, the Imam at his mosque told him that it was fine to continue as a musician, as long as the songs were morally acceptable, but others were saying that “it was all prohibited”, and he decided to avoid the question by ceasing to perform.
