Chris Smith was an American professional football player who was a defensive end in the National Football League who also played for the Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns. He played college football for the Arkansas Razorbacks. Smith was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. His college career was spent at Arkansas.

During the 2018 season, Smith started two games for the Browns. During the 2019 season, Smith’s girlfriend was struck and killed by a driver in a traffic accident. She was a passenger in Smith’s car and exited the vehicle after it had a tire malfunction and hit the median. The two had just had a daughter together named, Haven Harris Smith. In 2020, Smith returned to the NFL and played eight games for the Raiders.

Chris Smith died on April 17, 2023, at the age of 31 and the cause of death was not disclosed. Not much is known about the circumstances or the cause of death yet. on March 9, 2023, he signed with the Seattle Sea Dragons of the XFL.

Chris Smith was dating Petara Cordero, in 2019. Smith’s girlfriend and the mother of one of his three children, was killed after being struck by a passing car after exiting Smith’s car, which had become disabled after hitting a median.

“When it first happened, I was ready to give up,” Smith told a group of reporters after the game. But I had to just think about my daughter and stuff and she would want me to play.

I got to play for her. She’s my why. My daughter’s my why. My other two kids are, too. But for my youngest, I’ve got to be mom and dad. God has stuff happen for a reason. Sometimes we don’t understand God’s plan, but she’s in a better place now. The rest of my life, I’m going to fight for her.”

Chris Smith attended West Rowan High School in Mount Ulla, North Carolina. He signed a three-year contract with the Cleveland Browns, in 2018. He was waived by the Browns, in 2019. He signed a one-year contract with the Carolina Panthers, in 2020. He had a tryout with the Las Vegas Raiders, in 2020. He signed a one-year contract with the Baltimore Ravens, in 2021. In the same year, he was signed to the Houston Texans’ practice squad.
