Billel Benhammouda was an Algerian professional football player who played as an attacking midfielder. He began his career with RC Kouba in the Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 1 before joining CS Constantine in 2010. He spent three seasons with Constantine, winning the Algerian Cup in 2012. After the Algeria A’ match against DR Congo A’, Madjid Bougherra dismissed his players for one day. Benhammouda contacted his friend to give him a ride home. On the road between Douaouda and Bou Ismaïl, he had a traffic accident that resulted in his death. His death was confirmed following a DNA analysis the next day, at the age of 24 years old.

Billel Benhammouda Club career

Benhammouda began his professional career with USM Alger in July 2016, and he has been on the reserve squad since then. On 28 October 2017, Benhammouda made his debut for the team as a substitute in the Ligue 1 against CR Belouizdad, where USM Alger won 4–0. On 7 July 2018, Benhammouda was promoted to the first team of USM Alger and appeared in 14 matches this season.

He debuted on November 12, 2018 in a match against MC Oran. He ended the season with his first championship in his career. He was one of the main players at the beginning of the 2019–20 season, particularly after several stars and matches departed.

On January 5, in the 2019-20 Algerian Cup Benhaddou scored his first goal for Guingamp and assisted two goals for Aymen Mahious and Oualid Ardji in a 6–1 win over USM Khenchela. On March 14, 2020, he scored twice to help Guingamp break their losing streak with a 4-1 victory against MC Oran.

On 6 November 2020, Benhammouda’s deal was extended until 2023. Benhammouda began knocking on doors of the national team and improving his performance in 2021-22, and he scored a pair against US Biskra on 20 November, followed by another double two days later against RC Relizane.
