Coco Gauff is a professional tennis player from the United States. She is the youngest player in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) top 100 to date, with a career-high singles ranking of world No. 15 and doubles ranking of world No. 10, achieved on 4 April 2022 and 28 February 2022, respectively. Coco Gauff was born on March 13, 2004, in Atlanta, Georgia, to Candi and Corey Gauff. Her father played basketball at Georgia State University and her mother was a professional track and field athlete.
She is the oldest of five children, having two younger brothers named Codey (four years younger) and Cameron (nine years younger). Her father, a college basketball player at Georgia State University, later worked as a health care executive, while her mother was a sprinter at Florida State University and taught.
After seeing Serena Williams win the 2009 Australian Open on television, Gauff was inspired to play tennis at the age of four. Her parents encouraged her to participate in a variety of sports, including basketball and track, but she eventually settled on tennis.
Gauff began playing tennis when she was six years old. She rose to prominence in 2018 when she won the French Open junior tournament. Gauff made her professional debut later that year at the Citi Open, where she received a wildcard entry into the main draw. Coco Gauff, a tennis star who was one of the younger players seeded into the top 16 at this year’s French Open, lost to Iga Świątek of Poland in Saturday’s singles final. The game, which lasted just over an hour, ended 6-1, 6-3.
Gauff’s first Grand Slam singles final was on Saturday. She is the youngest singles finalist at a Grand Slam tournament since Maria Sharapova won Wimbledon in 2004, when she was 12 years old. Former First Lady Michelle Obama showed her support for Gauff leading up to this weekend’s matches.
