Stuart Fails to Save the Universe Episode 6 Recap: What Happens in the Cow Universe?

Stuart Fails to Save the Universe Season 1, Episode 6, titled Spoiler: Corn Is Delicious takes Stuart and the group into one of their strangest alternate realities yet. This time, humans evolved from cows, which means people eat grass, have four stomachs and chew cud.

At first, the strange world does not seem like a bad place for Stuart and Denise. In fact, it may be the first universe where Stuart can imagine having a peaceful life. But that changes when Stuart learns that the multiverse is still in serious danger and that he may be the only person who can fix it.

Spoilers ahead for Stuart Fails to Save the Universe Season 1, Episode 6.

What Happens in Stuart Fails to Save the Universe Episode 6?

Episode 6 picks up with Stuart, Denise, Bert and Kripke still moving between alternate realities. Their latest destination turns out to be a world where humans evolved from cows instead of primates.

That means people have four stomachs, eat grass and chew cud. It is an absurd idea, but the rest of the world is surprisingly familiar. Compared with some of the dangerous realities the group has already visited, this one feels almost normal.

Stuart and Denise quickly realize that they could actually live there.

Stuart and Denise Consider Staying

For once, Stuart is not desperate to find another universe. He and Denise are comfortable in this reality and begin talking about their future together.

Stuart has never really wanted to be a great hero. What he wants is a simple life with Denise, and this universe gives him the chance to have it.

Stuart even proposes to Denise. The proposal happens while they are living like the cow-evolved humans of this world, which makes the scene as strange as it is funny.

But while Stuart and Denise are settling down, Bert and Kripke decide they want to find another reality.

Bert and Kripke Become Trapped Between Universes

Bert and Kripke leave the cow universe, but their attempt to jump to another reality goes badly wrong.

Instead of arriving safely somewhere else, they become trapped in an endless fall between universes. There appears to be no bottom and no obvious way out.

The situation gives the episode one of its main comedy threads, with Bert and Kripke trying to deal with their bizarre predicament while Stuart and Denise remain behind.

Raj Returns

Episode 6 also brings back Raj Koothrappali, played by Kunal Nayyar.

This version of Raj is a survivalist who has been studying the strange changes happening to the universe. He warns Stuart that galaxies and star systems are disappearing from the edges of existence.

According to Raj, the entire universe could eventually disappear within a few hundred years.

Stuart does not immediately see this as a reason to leave his new home. If the universe is going to disappear hundreds of years from now, he figures that he and Denise will be long gone by then.

It is a selfish response, but it also fits Stuart’s character. After everything he has gone through, he finally has something he wants to protect.

Why Is Stuart the Only Person Who Can Save the Universe?

Stuart eventually meets another version of himself, who helps explain why so much responsibility has fallen on him.

Stuart became quantum-entangled with the event that fractured reality. Because of that connection, he has a unique relationship with the device responsible for the multiverse disaster.

That means Stuart is not simply one person who might be able to repair the damage. He is the one person who can actually do it.

The discovery is difficult for Stuart because he does not think of himself as special. He still sees himself as an ordinary comic book store owner who somehow ended up responsible for the fate of the universe.

Denise Helps Stuart Understand What a Hero Really Is

Denise eventually gets through to Stuart.

She does not tell him that he is secretly a powerful superhero. Instead, she gives him a much simpler idea of what being a hero means.

Being a hero is about choosing to make life better for other people.

That idea changes Stuart’s thinking. He could stay with Denise and live a comfortable life, but he knows that he has a chance to help countless people across the multiverse.

Stuart finally chooses to continue the mission.

The important part is that Stuart does not suddenly become fearless or confident. He is still Stuart. He simply decides that doing the right thing matters more than taking the easiest option.

How Does Stuart Get Another Quantum Device?

There is one major problem: Stuart needs a way to travel between universes.

The group eventually obtains a quantum echo of the original device, giving Stuart and Denise another chance to continue their journey.

During their next jump, they also manage to reconnect with Bert and Kripke, who are still trapped in their endless fall between realities.

The group is finally reunited.

Stuart Fails to Save the Universe Episode 6 Ending Explained

After escaping from the space between universes, Stuart, Denise, Bert and Kripke arrive in another reality.

At first, everything appears normal.

But the group soon discovers that this universe has its own unusual rule: everyone can read everyone else’s thoughts.

Kripke’s private thoughts are suddenly no longer private, immediately making the new reality uncomfortable for the group.

The discovery sets up the events of Episode 7, where Stuart and the others will have to deal with a world in which keeping secrets is almost impossible.

What Does Episode 6 Mean for Stuart?

The cow universe is more than just another strange joke from the multiverse.

It gives Stuart something he has wanted throughout the series: a chance at a normal and happy life with Denise.

That is what makes his decision to leave so important.

Stuart does not choose to save the universe because he suddenly believes he is a great hero. He chooses to do it because he understands that other people need his help.

In that sense, Episode 6 is really about responsibility.

Stuart could have stayed somewhere safe. Instead, he chooses to leave that life behind and continue the difficult journey.

He may still be an unlikely hero but for the first time, he actually chooses to act like one.
