Moreover, he is best known as the father of champion Rafael Nadal, who claimed the 14th French Open title by beating Norwegian Casper Ruud 6-3, 6-3, 6-0 in the Final on Sunday. Rafael Nadal was born on June 3, 1986, in Manacor, Mallorca, Spain. His father Sebastián was a businessman who owned an insurance company as well as a glass and window business. His mother Ana María worked as a housewife. Rafa began playing tennis at age four with his uncle Toni Nadal, who would become his coach and have the biggest influence on his career.
Rafa’s first big tournament victory came at age 12, when he won the Under-12s division of the Balearic Island Championship. He went on to win the Spanish and European Under-14s singles titles in 2002. The following year, he made his professional debut at the ATP event in Mallorca, losing in the first round. In 2004, he won his first ATP title at clay court event in Valencia.
Rafa’s breakthrough year came in 2005, when he reached the semifinals of the French Open and Wimbledon. He also won his first Masters 1000 title that year, defeating Roger Federer in the final of the Madrid Open.
