Louis Tillet was a singer, songwriter, keyboard player and saxophonist. He rose to prominence for his Sydney’s thriving independent music scene of the 80s and 90s, and was much admired for his solo work and his band, the Wet Taxis. His popular album includes, Ego Tripping At the Gates of Hell, A Cast of Aspersions, Letters to a Dream, The Ugly Truth. He has died at age 64, a major figure in Sydney’s music scene on the cover of his solo album Live at the Basement, released in 2001. His death news was confirmed on Facebook, on 6 August 2023.
He was suffering from Chronic Kidney Disease
In 2001, a GoFundMe page launched and there it was announced that Tillett was suffering from chronic kidney disease. The debilitating condition prevented the hard working musician from performing any shows in the last two years. Suffering from his illness, Tillett’s GoFundMe campaign received an overwhelming response from fans and well-wishers.
Assumptions about Louis Tillett’s wife
Louis Tillett was not married. He never spoken anything about his love life. While some sources suggest that he may have been involved with singers such as, Tina Turner and Olivia Newton-John. But this rumors never got confirmed. He preferred to maintain a private life away from the spotlight.
He never got the kind of widespread success of contemporaries like Hunters and Collectors, and Nick Cave. But his talent as a musician was much sought after. He formed a jazzier group called Paris Green, in mid 80s.
