Emily Sisson is a popular distance runner and a new Balance professional runner who won the 2016 USA Track & Field (USATF) 10k Championships and the 2018 5k Championships. The Chicago Marathon set a new record earlier this year with 39 seconds. After the race, Sisson, Samuelson, and Kastor posed for a photo that was posted on the Chicago Marathon’s Twitter account along with two other women who previously held the record: Joan Benoit Samuelson and Deena Kastor.
“American record in the marathon today! 2:18:29. Still sinking in to be honest lol,” Sisson wrote an Instagram post that showed her holding a sign that read, “American Record.”
“So overwhelmed—in the best way—with all the kind messages and texts! Thanks everyone for all the support.”
Sisson set the American record, but Ruth Chepngetich from Kenya came in first place during the women’s race. Benson Kipruto from Kenya won the men’s race.
