The gospel vocal group the Pace Sisters lost their leader, singer and songwriter Dona Duanice Pace, on Thursday, her family said. She was 70 years old. Pace’s daughter, Dee Dee Pace, said in a statement that her mother had died “peacefully in her sleep.”
“Mom was an incredible woman with an amazing voice who loved to sing and entertain,” Dee Dee Pace said. “She was a devoted mother and grandmother whose greatest joy was spending time with her family. We will miss her dearly but know that she is now at peace.”
Born in Atlanta, Duranice Pace was the eldest of 12 children and began singing at an early age. She moved to Chicago as a teenager to pursue a career in music, and it was there that she met her future husband, Cecil Pace.

The gospel group, also known as the Anointed Pace Sisters, was formed by her two younger sisters. In addition to her, Phyllis Pace, June Pace-Martin, Melonda Pace, Dejuaii Pcace, Leslie Pcae Latrice Pcae Lydia Pcie and recurring member LaShun Pcee were among the members of the group. The eldest sister of the gospel quartet is called Smith.
