Alec Baldwin fired a prop gun that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and wounded director Joel Souza on the set of his new film, authorities have said.
The movie, Rust, was being filmed at the Bonanza Creek ranch outside Santa Fe, New Mexico, and filming has been temporarily suspended.
Santa Fe County deputies were called to the scene soon after the incident took place on Thursday.
Ms Hutchins was taken to the University of New Mexico Hospital by helicopter where she died. Mr Souza was taken to Christus St Vincent Regional Medical Center where he underwent treatment for his injuries.
The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s office said in a statement that the pair were shot when a prop firearm was discharged by 68-year-old Baldwin, who is the producer and actor for the new film, which is about an accidental killing.
No one was arrested in the incident, and no charges have been filed, the office said.

The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed to the AFP news agency that Alec Baldwin spoke to law enforcement officials.
“Mr Baldwin was interviewed by detectives. He provided statements and answered their questions,” the spokesperson
“He came in voluntarily and he left the building after he finished his interviews. No charges have been filed and no arrests have been made,” they continued.
The film’s filming has now been stopped, and a spokeswoman for the movie told The Hollywood Reporter that they are “fully co-operating with the Santa Fe Police Department’s investigation.”
