Rhys Ifans was born on July 22, 1967, in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, Wales, to parents Beti-Wyn Davies and Eirwyn Evans Ifans. He has two sisters, Bethan and Mari, and one brother, Llyr. His mother is a teacher and his father is a farmer. He attended Ysgol Maes Garmon, a Welsh-language secondary school in Mold, Flintshire. He then studied drama at Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.
Rhys Ifans made his film debut in the 1997 film Twin Town. He has since appeared in such films as Notting Hill (1999), Little Nicky (2000), The Shipping News (2001), Enduring Love (2004), The Amazing Spider-Man (2012), and Mr. Nice (2010).
