Alaska, who starred in season five of RuPaul’s Drag Race before winning the popular All Stars sequel, announced her retirement on Instagram. She made the announcement in a lengthy post on her Instagram account, writing that “after much deliberation and reflection,” she has decided to “step away” from drag. “It’s been an amazing ride, but I feel like it’s time for me to move on to other things,” she wrote. “I’m so grateful to everyone who has supported me throughout my career, and I hope you’ll continue to do so.” How Did Alaska’s Father Died: What We Know So Far.

In the meantime, Alaska said she will be focusing on her music career and release a new album later this year. She also thanked RuPaul for “giving me a platform to showcase my talent” and said she will always be “forever grateful” for her experience on Drag Race.

Remembering her father, Alaska added, “He was kind and loving and hilarious and had a beautiful heart, and had so much love for his family, his wife, my sister and me, and his grandchildren.”

“We are still very much in shock and devastated and I’m not sure if this will ever make sense,” the 37-year-old star wrote. “I’m a feeling a lot of pain and grief right now. I’m also feeling compassion for anyone who has ever lost someone they love.”

Alaska also shared a photo of her and her father when she was younger. “I love you daddy,” she captioned the post. Fans and fellow drag queens have since taken to social media to offer their condolences to Alaska and her family.

“Sorry to hear of your loss! Sending a lot of love and positive energy your way, sorry to hear about your passing,” tweeted Elektra Shock. “I’m sorry for your loss, sweetie. I send you and your family all my love.” Mayhem Miller added, “I’m sorry for your loss, dear. I wish you and yours the best in this difficult time.” Alaska has now revealed that she will not be appearing on the seventh and newest season of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars.

On an episode of her Race Chaser podcast, she said, “When I wasn’t asked to be on the show, I was very, very emotional and hurt and sad. So I was like,’Is this going to be too difficult? Is it going to be really hard for me to even watch and talk about it?’ So,” she continued , “I was thinking that.” At the end of the day, she decided to send good wishes to this year’s contestants. “I just have to say that it’s really wonderful and I’m so happy that this is happening,” Alaska stated.
